I want to tell you about the process I use to help my clients achieve their goals and often go onto achieve even more than they hoped when they first started.
It’s a 4 step process, developed from everything I’ve learned from courses and the people I’ve worked with over the last 20 years in fitness.
In my last post, I spoke about Painting Pictures.
Today, I want to tell you about the second step:
Laying Foundations
Laying foundations is where we take the steps we created in the previous step and start to put them into action. It’s about preparing your mind and body for what you’re about to do. It’s about creating the positive habits that will lead you directly to your goal.
This is a crucial step for the difference it makes. It’s also a step, I believe, the diet and fitness industries bypass completely. They’re both built around performance so want you to start getting results straight away.
With diets, you’ll immediately start following their instructions. In fitness, you’re free to join bootcamps, do HIIT classes etc on the assumption that you have the ability to perform the exercises well enough to get the greatest benefit from them.
There’s often NO preparation phase.
The problem we all have is that we spend the majority of our days sitting down and as a result, we stiffen up. We begin to struggle with exercises that we used to be able to do well and don’t get as much benefit from them as we used to.
Becoming More Active
In this phase, we work on helping you become more active on a daily basis, look at how your body moves, create exercises to help it move more freely and make changes to your diet and lifestyle.
On an activity level, this could be getting out and walking more, get your 10,000 steps a day. Creating a few, but good, mobility exercises you can practice little and often throughout the day.
Exercises you could effectively do whilst brushing your teeth or while you’re making yourself a tea/coffee as much as in a regular workout.
In terms of diet and lifestyle, I believe in making one or two changes at a time rather than change everything at once. When you make fewer changes, they become easier to adopt and become habit.
Essentially, this phase will enable you to make greater progress in the next phase and help you get better results, sooner.
Feel More Energised
Imagine waking up in the morning and feeling more energised, not feeling as stiff or your back not feeling as sore. Imagine going through your day getting more done, having fewer energy slumps and not reaching for biscuits or snacks, not because you’re denying yourself them but because you no longer feel you need them!
How will that make you feel?
This is after only 2 weeks! It’s these little things that builds confidence in that what you’re doing feels like it’s working. It gives you the desire to go and do more to see what other differences you notice.
It also builds the momentum you need that will keep you motivated and move you closer to your goals.
This brings us neatly to the next step – Practice, Learn, Grow.
Do you feel like you’re on the right path towards your goals?
